Beginner Brioche

Have you ever wanted to try brioche but weren’t sure where to begin? Join Jamie and learn the fundamentals of this popular technique while knitting a cute single twist headband. This is a great jumping off point to work before taking on more complicated brioche projects in the future!

Materials to Bring: 4.5 mm needles (straight or circular), scissors, a measuring tape, and a darning needle

Materials Provided: Yarn and pattern

Skill level: Must be comfortable with casting on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, yarn overs, and binding off.

Learn to Rug Hook

Learn How to Weave on a Rigid Heddle Loom

The rigid heddle loom is very lightweight, portable and easy to use. In this class you will learn to warp the loom, weave a sampler and basic finishing techniques. Includes use of a rigid heddle loom for the day. Please bring your lunch.

Fair Isle Mitts – Maple Leaf Forever

Learn basic stranding while creating the new Maple Leaf Forever mitten, an original pattern by local designer Cheryl den Hartog. Cheryl will share her stranding lessons learned – what works and what doesn’t.

This workshop will help you:
– Work with 2 colours without tangling
– Recognize the colour principles that make Fair Isle designs effective

Materials Provided : Original pattern and 2 colours of 100% wool.

– Your completed homework
– Your Lunch – coffee and tea will be provided

Very Beginner Knitting

In this workshop, you’ll learn the essential foundations of knitting while making a soft, cozy headband. We’ll start from the very beginning, so this is for you if you have no or very little prior knitting experience!

You’ll learn:
– A long-tail cast on
– The basic knit stitch, working in garder stitch
– Looking out for common beginner mistakes
– Basic pattern reading

By the end of class, you’ll be comfortably knitting on your own and ready to finish your headband at home. You’ll receive a take-home handout, helping with finishing techniques.

Needle Felted Flat Tapestry- Inspired by Maud Lewis

Celebrate the charm of folk artist Maud Lewis through needle felting!

In this class, students will create a flat, wool tapestry inspired by Lewis’s iconic cat paintings. All of the fundamentals of needle felting are covered, from essential tools to techniques like shaping wool and controlling texture with your needles.

No prior experience is necessary—all materials are provided.

Learn to Double Knit

  • Saturday, March 14th 1pm-4pm
  • $40 + HST (includes materials except needles and notions)

Double knitting is a reversible knitting technique where 2 sides of your fabric are created at the same time. It’s excellent for toasty warm accessories (double thick hats!), squishy home goods (cuddly blankets!), and professional-looking garment finishes (double knit button bands!). Learn the basics while making a super cute sheep potholder: you’ll learn a tidy cast on, the basics of making 2-sided fabric, how to get tidy edge tension, how to read a double knit colourwork chart, and a bind off that matches your cast on.

Materials to bring: 3.75 mm circular or straight needles, locking stitch markers, darning needle, and scissors.

Materials provided: yarn and pattern

Skills Required Before Class:

  • Knitter has previously completed at least 1 stranded colourwork project
  • Knitter is already comfortable reading stranded knitting colourwork charts
  • Knitter is already comfortable working basic knitting techniques (knit, purl, slip, casting on, binding off).

Skill level: Intermediate
