Thursday Knit Group

  • Thursday, June 23rd, 1pm - 4pm

Great news this month we will resume Thursday Knit Groups 1pm – 4pm.  We will kick off with an optional KAL,  the Whidbey Bag.  This new pattern has intrigued us all!  All you need is a skein of worsted weight yarn (we are using MacAusland’s) and we will provide the odds and ends for stripes.
We will be outside weather permitting.

Learn How to Weave on a Rigid Heddle Loom

  • $70 plus HST includes all materials and use of a rigid heddle loom for the class.

The rigid heddle loom is very lightweight, portable and easy to use. In this class you will learn to warp the loom, weave a sampler and basic finishing techniques. There will be a maximum of 6 students in the class with 2 instructors. Please bring your lunch.

Plant Dyeing

Come and join Evelyn Allen for a day of dyeing wool with plants. She has been dying with plants for years and will show you a method suitable for dying most fibres with plants or lichens. We will be using onion skins, nettles and tea and you will go home with a skein dyed in all three plants. Topics covered will be mordants, dyeing safety, harvesting material, dyeing methods and the many plants that can be used to colour fibre. All supplies are included. Bring a lunch, any plant dying you may have done and knitting, as there is some down time while pots heat up and simmer. You may also want to take notes.

Learn to Spin on a Drop Spindle

Join Jenna and learn to spin your own yarn! Jenna will take you through the steps of spinning your first yarn. You will learn the essential spinning vocabulary, learn to spin using a drop spindle and gain the skills to spin beautiful singles.

A drop spindle and fibre is included in the cost of the class.

Summer Shawl Weaving

A luxurious blend of linen and silk this shawl has incredible drape. A mix of plain weave and spot lace keeps the weaving interesting and creates a lovely texture to the finished fabric. And, it is as lovely on the right side as the wrong side! This pattern requires a minimum 20” rigid heddle, a 10 dent reed and 2 pick up sticks. Pattern is suitable for the intermediate weaver. Finished dimensions: 15 ¼” x 60 ½” plus fringe.

Students will come to class with their loom warped.

Supplies for class: warped loom, scissors, S-hooks, tape measure, 2 p/u sticks, stick shuttle (not a boat shuttle for this project), stand if they want, their 2nd skein of yarn balled

Socks on Circular Needles

  • Saturdays, July 23 & 30th, 1pm - 4pm
  • $50 + HST (includes yarn)

A quick and easy sock pattern. Classic top down construction, using circular needles, the magic loop technique, and worsted weight yarn. Perfect for a quick gift!

Workshop will be divided into two sessions, 1 week apart. The first week we will cast on, learn the magic loop, and knit the leg. The second week we will tackle the heel, and knit the foot.

Note: the lace panel is optional.

3.25mm circular needles with a 32” cable
3.75mm circular needles with a 32” cable
