Anatomy of a Stitch
Understanding how knitted fabric goes together is essential for
finding and fixing goofs.
Long promised, this class is for knitters who ask why. We learned
how to knit certain things but not why it works. Why do decreases
lean left or right? Why do stitches twist? Why is make 1 right
anyway?
In this workshop we’ll consider the knit stitch from several
perspectives. We’ll start with how the stitch is mounted on the
needle and then consider:
- Front and back
- Right side up and upside down
- Direction of yarn
- Slipping, twisting, decreases and much more
We will not be making a project. We will simply play – no pressure, no deadlines, just fooling around with yarn and needles.
Please bring: 5 or 6 mm circular or double pointed needles and detachable stitch markers.
Skill level: Advanced beginner to intermediate (must have knit 5
or more projects).
