Learn to Double Knit
Double knitting is a reversible knitting technique where 2 sides of your fabric are created at the same time. It’s excellent for toasty warm accessories (double thick hats!), squishy home goods (cuddly blankets!), and professional-looking garment finishes (double knit button bands!). Learn the basics while making a super cute sheep potholder: you’ll learn a tidy cast on, the basics of making 2-sided fabric, how to get tidy edge tension, how to read a double knit colourwork chart, and a bind off that matches your cast on.
Materials to bring: 3.75 mm circular or straight needles, locking stitch markers, darning needle, and scissors.
Materials provided: yarn and pattern
Skills Required Before Class:
- Knitter has previously completed at least 1 stranded colourwork project
- Knitter is already comfortable reading stranded knitting colourwork charts
- Knitter is already comfortable working basic knitting techniques (knit, purl, slip, casting on, binding off).

Silly of Steeks
Steeking is a technique used in Fair Isle knitting to position sleeves and shape necklines. It cleverly allows the knitter to work in the round. The scary part is actually cutting your knitting to complete the garment.
Why not learn how to steek with confidence? Gain experience while knitting a sweater for your tea pot. ‘Blue Jays in Winter’ was designed for you to learn how to:
- Choose the type of steek for your project
- Set up and knit 2 types of steeks
- Reinforce and cut a steek
- Pickup stitches next to a steek
Materials: Yarn Kit provided – includes 6 colours of Briggs & Little 100% wool and original pattern
Skill Level: Advanced – Must be familiar with working in the round and have some experience of stranded knitting. All demonstrations will be on circular needles.
Please bring:
- Your Lunch – coffee & tea will be provided
- Your completed homework

Sheepskin Baby Slippers
These cute baby slippers make an excellent gift for any new arrivals in your life, especially since they’re so quick to make. They’re also a great way to try several fibre arts skills in one project: the sides of each slipper are crocheted but the upper and ankle are knit! In the class, we’ll begin by crocheting around the sides of the slipper sole so that it doesn’t pucker or fold. Then, we’ll pick up into the crochet sts to knit the upper. Finally, we’ll work the ankle in the round, finishing with a stretchy bind off. Bonus: once you’ve made your baby pair, you’ll have all the skills you’ll need to make a child or adult pair!
Materials to Bring:
- 5.5 mm double pointed needles (or 32” circular needles if more comfortable with magic loop)
- 3.25 mm crochet hook (3 mm or 3.5 mm is fine too)
- Locking stitch markers
- Scissors
- Darning needle
Materials Provided: Yarn, slipper soles, and pattern
Skill level:
Participants must already be comfortable with the following knitting and crochet skills:
- Knitting: the knit stitch, the purl stitch, ssk, k2tog, knitting in the round (magic loop or double pointed needles), and binding off
