Learn How to Weave on a Rigid Heddle Loom
The rigid heddle loom is very lightweight, portable and easy to use.
In this class you will learn to warp the loom, weave a sampler and basic finishing techniques. There will be a maximum of 6 students in the class with 2 instructors.
Please bring your lunch.

Icelandic Knit-a-Long
Iceland has a long knitting tradition ranging from fine shawls to the famous yoke pullover. This project is a top down pullover, knit in the round with a stranded colour yoke. It features optional shaping details to fit the neck, waist and hips. Along the way, we’ll discuss the characteristics of Icelandic sheep, and Icelandic textile techniques and traditions.
Why not join a Treysta sweater knit a long? This design allows you to learn how to:
- Knit body, sleeves and yoke in the round
- Hold 2 yarn colours and knit without tangling
- Strand pattern and background colours
- Deal with 3 colours per round for the rare times this happens
- Use short rows to shape the neck
- Graft the few underarm stitches to complete the garment.
Materials to be purchased : Istex Lettlopi yarn
Needles required:
- 3.75mm dpns or 40cm (neckline)
- 4mm – 60cm or 80cm (ribbed edges)
- 4.5mm – 40cm, 60cm or 80cm (main body)
- dpns – 4mm, 4.5mm (ribbed edges and sleeves)
Participants should have knit a sweater before. Any colourwork experience an asset.

The Night Shift shawl by Andrea Mowry is a fun introduction to mosaic knitting and I-cord edges. Join Tammy for a 3 session KAL and knit this colourful shawl with 2 skeins of Ito by Noro. Not sure? Stop in and try on our store sample…you will want one for yourself!

Tapestry Weaving
Join Mary Ann from House of Wooly Thyme to create a one-of-a-kind woven wall hanging that will introduce beginners to the wonderful world of tapestry weaving. Skills covered will include: choosing your fibres, mixing textures, warping your loom, a variety of weaving stitches, creating simple shapes and finishing your work.

Fair Isle Mittens
Fair Isle is a colour knitting tradition that may look intimidating but isn’t really that hard. It uses at most two colours for any row. Once you have mastered a few simple techniques, you can play with colour and create a wide range of inventive items. Why not join us for a fun, relaxing workshop? Learn the basic techniques while creating a mitten inspired by retreating tides of the Bay of Fundy. This mitten will help you learn to:
- Hold 2 yarn colours
- Knit without tangling yarns
- Strand pattern and background colours
- Recognize the colour principles that make Fair Isle designs effective
Must be familiar with knitting in the round. Demonstrations will be on double pointed needles.
Please bring your completed homework and lunch.

Design your own Woven Shawl on a Rigid Heddle Loom
Tired of plain weave but afraid to branch out? Join Tammy and design your own shawl. Together we will choose yarn, get warped and begin weaving. Students must provide their own loom and be comfortable warping independently.

Needlefelting
Felt is considered to be the oldest known textile! Using the traditional technique of needle felting create your own unique tapestry. Bring a photo of your favourite lighthouse or work from provided samples. Some needle felting experience is not necessary but would be considered an asset.

Beginner Socks
Over the three weeks you will learn about casting on, making a sock fit, turning a heel, fitting the foot, and grafting the toe. At the end of the class you will have a completed pair of adult socks. Homework will be required for this class. Students will need to bring 2 sets of 3.25 dpns. Students should be comfortable knitting and purling.

Tea and Oatcakes with Shirl
Shirley Scott (Shirl the Purl) is one of the authors of “Saltwater Mittens”. This is sure to be an interesting and fun afternoon as Shirley will talk about the making of Saltwater Mittens, show her samples and discuss the stories behind them. Shirley is very much looking forward to meeting local knitters!
Saltwater Mittens: How to Knit Traditional Newfoundland Double Ball Mittens
The Intro
The “double ball” (fairisle) knitting tradition. European traditions. Design principles of Newfoundland mittens. Sizing and customizing fit. Yarn and colour selection. Double points or 2 circulars.
The Wrist
Ribbing choices. Stripe sequences. Tidy jogless stripes with no purl bleed. Increasing: how and where?
The Hand
Choosing a stitch pattern. No tangle stranding. Carrying yarns. Maintaining the dominant hand for even colour work. Positioning and forming the thumb gusset. Outlining the gusset. Gusset increases in pattern: M1R, M1L. Bridging the gusset gap. Salt and pepper pattern: the rules. Trigger finger option. Shaping the mitten top: picket fence, rounded or combo? Decreasing in salt and pepper pattern. A happy ending: 3-needle bind off in salt and pepper.

Picking up stitches in pattern. Finger tip decreases.
