On Saturday, July 30th Gaspereau Valley Fibres is very excited to be hosting Doris Eaton who will be signing her new book "Lifetime of Rug Hooking". Nimbus Publishing says this about her and her book: "Doris has been hooking rugs for nearly 50 years and is one of the region's well-known rug hookers. A Lifetime of Rug-Hooking features over 80 of Doris's rugs in spectacular detail, complete with the inspiration and materials behind their creation." Be sure to stop in between 2-4pm to pick up your copy and share a chat with this amazing fibre artist.

Calling all sock enthusiasts! Cat Bordhi will be teaching at the shop on October the 6th. She will be instructing people on making her Tomato Heel – "the heel's shape resembles a tomato's clean curves…and once the process is understood, the average knitter will be able to apply it to any sock of any size, and understand how to proceed without written directions." Details (exact time and cost) to follow.

We are all very excited to announce the arrival of the Sidekick Spinning Wheel from Schacht. This innovative wheel is lightweight, compact and a pleasure to spin on. It folds up for easy transport, and the creative design is sure to turn a few heads. Stop in and give it a spin.
We would also like to remind everyone of the spinning group that meets at Gaspereau Valley Fibres every second and fourth week of the month at 10am. All are welcome! Pack a lunch and enjoy some spinning time with other fibre folk.
Spin Local update! Spots are filling up very quickly, so if you have not registered for the Maritime Spinners Retreat in October yet, we suggest you call or email the shop and get your seat today!

It feels like Christmas in the shop with something new coming in the door every other day. Brenda and Manda had a blast checking things out at TNNA, and new things should be arriving in the shop almost every week until Christmas. Here is a small sampling of what has arrived so far:
New Herdy items! We have aprons, bags, stitch markers and cards, all with the great Herdy sheep looking back at you. And while you're in the cooking mood, check out the patterns from "Knit Cook" that we have. A knitting pattern that comes with a recipe. Knit one, cook too.
Habu Heaven! Linen, paper, mohair, silk, cotton gima,  stainless steel – it's all here! New patterns to try as well.
Sausalito sock yarn from Crystal Palace yarns. A beautiful 2-ply yarn slow-striping yarn that is sure to please the pickiest foot.
And last but not least, goodies and gadgets! Dumpling cases, buttons, stitch markers, row counters, sweater shavers, wool washing bags, blocking wires, pom pom makers, puppy snips – you name it! Stop in and check out the fun.

Please note that the shop will be closed from Thursday, August 11th until Tuesday, August 16th at noon. Thursday afternoon knitting WILL still be taking place on the 11th, and the shop will reopen at noon on the 16th. Sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.

The fibre folk of Tuesdays and Thursdays have been busy this season. Here is a sampling of what they accomplished in the last month:
Dagmar has completed another shawl – perfect to throw around yourself when the sun goes down and you start to get a little chilly.
Keeping with the shawl theme Marilyn shows off her finished shawl as well. Looking great Marilyn!
JoAnne has finished her "stupid" sweater. She has lovingly named it this after reaching her patience limit with it. This project was worth the effort and time, it looks fabulous! Great job JoAnne.
Her is Jan with another home spun creation. She used her loom to create this beautiful shawl from her beautiful hand spun yarn. Lovely!
Just in time for summer and the warm weather, Julie completed this great skirt. Knit with an elastic yarn, it's sure to help keep her cool.
Trish participated in the beginners knitting course a few months ago, and here she is with one her many dish cloths. Wonderful!
Naomi cast off on her top down sweater that mixes one variegated wool with one solid. Love the colours Naomi – looks great.
Su has finished her cotton cardigan. Using Brown Sheep Cotton Fleece, Su added beads to give it that extra sparkle. It's the perfect colour to match the roses outside the shop. Nicely done Su!
