Suzanne unveiled this gorgeous shawl on Thursday afternoon. She used Fleece Artist Saldanha and added beads to give it that extra sparkler. Wonderful job Suzanne!

Island Sweet Fibre Arts hails from the west coast of Newfoundland, and supplies these fun, funky kits to Canada and beyond. Here you can see the scarflette or fingerless mitts kits. These are a great, quick knit project that includes everything you need – yarn, needles and pattern. The wool is Shawn's own handspun creation, so each project is truly one of a kind. Kits are $40 + HST.

Spring is well under way in the valley and with the warm weather comes some new additions to Gaspereau Valley Fibres. First is the new Elizabeth spinning wheel from Ashford. This gorgeous piece has a 24" wheel and the single treadle creates a smooth, calming motion while spinning, and the horizontal lazy kate holds three bobbins, which gives you a total of four all together. This wheel has turned into a shop favorite. Stop in and give it a try!
Next is the new Sidekick from Schacht. The design of this wheel is something new and different!  This is a sturdy little wheel that can fold up for easy transport. And the best thing? It includes an adjustable strap that lets you sling it over your shoulder like a knapsack! These wheel are due to arrive in the shop in the next few weeks.
The last addition are these cute little faces. All the lambs have been born and it's so much fun to look out the window and see them playing (or in this case, sleeping) in the pasture.

Everyone has been busy planning for this October, and we are excited to announce that the contests and events have been finalized. Some of the great contests this year are create your own name tag, longest thread and spin local: where people are being challenged to spin something using fibre as local to them as possible.
Some of the great events taking place this year include a talk from Richard Ashford about the history of Ashford, a fashion show of completed items, great demos and a social time at the Old O Barn. This year there is also a scholarship available to a beginner spinner between the ages of 18-25. Check out all the latest news on the website!

Looking for something to do this summer? Stop by the shop every 2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month at 10am and join in the spinning circle that is hosted here. Pack a brown bag lunch and enjoy some great company and fun times! (Please note there will be no group on June the 14th as the shop will be closed on this day.)

There are still spots available in our spring workshops. Wet Felting this Saturday still has a few spots left, and there is room left in all the dying workshops. These classes can make great presents, or can be a fun weekend spent away with some friends. Call or email the shop to register or to get more information.

Here is Dagmar with her completed "Sweet Jazz" shawl. A very beautiful piece. Thanks for sharing Dagmar.

Jane decided to knit herself a sweater for next winter. She chose a top down Knitting Pure and Simple pattern, and used two strands of Lambs Pride Bulky held together. This sweater knit up in no time as the yarn was super bulky, and the knitters often joked that Jane was knitting with "tree trunks" for needles. The end result was this beautiful sweater, that Jane will be able to wear as a jacket when the snow starts to fly at the end of the year. Fantastic Jane!

Cheryl has been working diligently on this sweater since just after new years. Everyone at knitting would watch with wonder as she would be doing intricate colour work, but still able to carry on a conversation. Here she is with the finished product, made for her husband. It's hard to tell who is happier: her that she is finished, or him since he gets to wear it! Wonderful job Cheryl!

It's that time of year again! Sheep Thrills is gearing up for this years Back to Back sheep to sweater competition. This is a world wide race to shear a sheep, spin the wool and knit a sweater all in one sitting. Sheep Thrills came in last year in just under 10 hours.
Join us on June the 4th and enter for your chance to win the completed sweater, or other various prizes! Shearing demos will be happening all day long, as well as felting demos.
All proceeds made from the raffle are going to "Carey Me" palliative care at the Valley Regional Hospital. Come on out and support a great cause! Click here to see the poster!
