Leslie dropped by the shop last week with her completed Flutter Scarf for us to see. This scarf is knit with quick increases on both ends, to create the flutter at the bottom. Leslie chose Fleece Artist Peter Rabbit for her scarf. The verigated colourway works well with the pattern and the angora makes a very soft and lightweight piece. Thanks for sharing this Leslie!

Nicki showed up after a nice Christmas break back home, and pulled out this beautiful entrelac scarf. It’s almost as tall as she is! Great job Nicki!

Jeanne showed up to Tuesday night knit group and we all were able to see her finish off this great Lucy Neatby Scarf. Knit with a verigated fingering weight yarn, this scarf uses short rows to create this twist which gives it its name. Lovely job Jeanne! Can’t wait to see what’s next.

Next is her Funky Fringed Scarf. This is a great stash busting project! Using two or more kinds of yarn (the more the merrier) you single crochet this whole scarf, leaving tails at the end, and before you know it, you have a completed scarf. This is a favorite around the shop – even Kitty can’t seem to get enough! |
| Last but not least are these beautiful socks. Knit with Berroco Sox, this will be sure to keep Sue’s feet warm in the new year! Great job on all of these Sue! | ![]() |

Gaspereau Valley Fibres would once again like to thank everyone who helped make 2010 such a great year. We saw a lot of fibre folks come through the shop, and we know this year will bring even more! We are excited about 2011 and upcoming events and workshops. Some of our guests will be Cat Bordhi, Anne Hanson, Richard Ashford and Deb Barnhill. We will also be having some of our old favorites as well with FibrEnsemble from PEI, Marilyn Rand and Brenna. We will be hosting the annual Back to Back Challenge again this year and hope to have two local teams competing. For the first time, The Maritime Spinner’s Retreat will be held in the Annapolis Valley, October 14th, 15th and 16th, at the Old Orchard Inn in Greenich. Register information coming soon. Here’s to a great 2010, and an even better 2011! |

Winter has fully arrived here at Gaspereau Valley Fibres, and with it came the search for that perfect sweater pattern that will keep you toasty warm outside, but won’t cook you once you head indoors. Our top pick is Blue Sky Alpaca’s Brushed Suri Tunic. Knit with Brushed Suri (67% baby suri, 22% merino, 11% bamboo) this tunic is soft as a feather and weighs about the same. This has been a favorite in the shop, and Blue Sky Alpaca has a nice variety of colours to choose from. The tunic has lots of sizing option and does not require a huge amount of yarn to knit. Using a 6.5mm needle, this is a fast easy project that will be keeping you warm in no time. |

Gaspereau Valley Fibres welcomes the Potluck Spinners on January 25th. This is a great group of spinners, and Gaspereau Valley Fibres also welcomes any other spinners out there (experience does not matter) to stop into the shop this day to spin with the Potluckers. |

Love lace but nervous to try your hand at it? Maybe you are an old pro at knitting lace? Perhaps you fall somewhere in between? Manos del Uruguay has got you covered no matter where you fall in the love of lace! Their new yarn is 439 yards of baby alpaca, silk and cashmere bliss. Manos has also just recently gained their World Fair Trade Organisation certification which mean that when you purchase their yarn you are directly helping the maker of the yarn and their family. Fairmount Fibres have created this Mirabelle Lace Scarf pattern to compliment the new yarn nicely. This pattern is great for a first time lace knitter or a nice quick knit for the more experienced types. Regardless of what you choose to use it for, this yarn is soft, warm and just asking to be wrapped around you! |

To kick off 2011 we have been asked to participate in the Nova Scotia Ice Wine Festival. Drop in Feb 5th and 6th, Feb 12th and 13th for a free sample of our neighbor’s prize winning wine, local cheese and chocolate and see what we are doing with the lustrous fleece and wool from our flock of Cotswold sheep. Gaspereau Valley Fibres would also like to congratulate Bruce Ewart, owner of the neighboring L’Acadie Vineyards, on making the Chronicle Herald’s 2010 Honour Roll. Ewart won gold at the Canadian Wine Awards for his 2007 Prestige Brut. It is only the third time in the awards’ history that a sparkler has been awarded a gold medal. Congratulations Bruce! |
